Meet The Awakened Team
Founder and Team Leader of Awakened, Jami has been in the health and wellness industry for over 20 years as a massage therapist. She has since grown her practice into Whole Health Healing through her knowledge and specialties in corrective exercise, holistic and dietary coaching, post-rehab, and injury prevention. Jami believes that anyone can achieve the health and wellness they desire through proper prescription of the 4 Doctors, the fundamentals of CHEK practices.
Jami’s drive to create a space centered around WHOLE Health Healing comes from many years in the “gym” setting, where she saw just how lacking it was in creating overall health and wellbeing. She wanted to create a safe and comfortable space for all. As someone who struggled for many years with weight issues stemming from over-stressing her body and creating internal and external body imbalances, she saw how important this space is, and how it’s lacking in most facilities. It was from this desire that she found a better way through the teachings of the CHEK Institute. Since going back to school in 2014, Jami has helped facilitate many on their journey to total health and well-being. She continues to create WHOLE Health Healing with her clients on a daily basis.
Jami Brokaw-Matchett

Randy is certified in personal training with a specialty in Corrective Exercise and Barefoot Training. He is also a Holistic Lifestyle Coach through the CHEK Institute. Before pursuing his passion for physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, he spent 30 years in the Fire Service in both New Mexico and Illinois. He retired to Albuquerque to be closer to his daughter and her family, while immersing himself in the beauty of the mountainous terrain.
His background as an Ace Biomechanics Specialist and Bare Foot Trainer allows him to work with a wide range of orthopedic injuries, postural abnormalities, and lifestyle imbalances. He works closely with all of his clients to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. His ability to combine all of his different tools as a trainer and coach allows for high-performance rehabilitation and conditioning programs that offer sustainable well-being in all aspects of lifestyle.

Danny Slade

Danny came to the fitness industry by no accident. He holds a black belt in Kenpo Karate and is a former professional boxer/kickboxer. He has been a certified personal trainer for over 10 years. His passion is watching his clients change both physically and mentally. Danny really enjoys helping facilitate change through the use of proper exercise and movement. When Danny is not with his clients, you will find him listening to live music, hanging out with loved ones, and spending as much time as he can with his dog.
Terris James
Professional Kickboxer
Terris is a former professional kickboxer who has competed internationally and is now a dedicated practitioner with 34 years of experience. A proud cat dad and Albuquerque native, he brings both skill and personality to every class.
Together with his wife, Cheyenne, Terris has built an exceptional team committed to helping each participant grow in confidence, stamina, and technique.
Our cardio kickboxing classes are welcoming to all levels—from first-timers to seasoned athletes—and are designed to challenge you, build strength, and keep you motivated.
Johnny Armijo
For Johnny, this work is more than fitness—it’s about transformation, connection, and building with over 8 years of experience helping individuals build strength, confidence, and sustainable wellness through both group training and one-on-one coaching. His approach to fitness goes beyond the physical—focusing on whole-person health; that includes movement, nutrition, and mindset.
As a person in long-term recovery and a Certified Peer Support Worker, Johnny brings a unique level of empathy, understanding, and lived experience to his work. He is deeply passionate about supporting individuals on their recovery journey, creating a safe and empowering space where people can heal, grow, and rediscover their potential.
Johnny believes that wellness is not one-size-fits-all. Through intentional movement, practical nutrition guidance, and a strong sense of community, he helps individuals meet themselves where they are and take meaningful steps toward a healthier, more balanced life, laying a foundation for lasting change.

Raquel Perez
Raquel is a relaxed yoga teacher who is dedicated to helping her students find a sense of peace and inner knowing. She traveled to India to study yoga when she was trying to find her own way in life. Her classes aim to hold a safe space for her students to put down the stresses of the world, even just for an hour, and come home to themselves. She knows that it is not always easy for us to slow down, but she has found that having a regular practice makes it so much more rewarding. She holds a 500hr RYT certification. She invites you to join her on the mat this week!

As a certified personal trainer, Andrea’s passion for fitness is deeply rooted in her own journey of recovery and transformation. Personal experience fuels her commitment to helping others overcome their own challenges through movement.
She specializes in creating unique, tailored workout programs that make exercise enjoyable and effective by carefully selecting techniques that maximize every minute spent. Her dedication transforms workouts from a chore into a fun, engaging experience. She moves in harmony with each client’s individual path, never ahead or behind but always alongside.
It is her mission to empower people to embrace physical activity as a powerful tool for holistic health, supporting every aspect of their well-being on their journey toward a balanced, vibrant life.
Danika Nowatzke
500 RYT, Yin, Shakti, Chair yoga practitioner, NASM, Nutrition Coach, Reiki Master.
Danika believes in the power of breath, movement, nutrition, and mindfulness to bring one to the center. Through her own practice, to the way she lives her life…her approach is shaped around gentle, transparent guidance on all levels.
She is a certified 500 RYT, Yin, Shakti, and Chair yoga practitioner. Certified NASM Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach. She is also a practicing Reiki Master. She believes in the power of mindfulness and meditation and has done deep studies into Buddhism. Through her own journey of healing, she has come full circle to offer her experiences to others.
